2 Months in The Making

Since I am a terribly inconsistent blogger I can't even keep up with goals I make. Enter the 366 day challenge. First I vowed to update my blog playlist every week. Then when that failed after like 2 weeks, I told y'all that I would update this goal every month. Well surprise, surprise...that didn't work either! So now I vow to basically post when I think of. i.e. in the midst of boredom or extreme procrastination. Here is my April/ May in Music.

April
May
These past two months were filled with study jams (hence the Russian tunes) some random additions, but mostly Summer music. Everyone knows that just like clothing, music selections change with the weather. There's simply nothing like listening to some Country tunes when it's 80+. Regardless here are some songs you definitely can't miss are:

Boyfriend: Justin Bieber. Despite the fact that he slips the line "sitting by the fire while we're eating fondue" it's soooo good.

Inna: Put Your Hands Up- Remember how Mr. Saxobeat became über popular last summer? Well consider this song the 2012 version

Brokenhearted: Karmin- Super upbeat, and my token "You go Girl" song for the month of May

Drunk on You- Luke Bryan. So so swoon worthy. A girl can dream right?

Furry Wall- Infant Sorrow. The sheer ridiculousness of this tune make frowning nearly impossible.

Portrait of a Quintessential Prep: JFK Part Deux

(via)
Today marks the birthday of John F. Kennedy and my second annual homage post to JFK. To date it is the most popular post on Seersuckered Sailor, but considering his legacy and style that's not too surprising. Last year I looked at the style of this interesting gent, but that's not his only contribution to the prep world. Many people know he was a sailor, but few knew how avid he really was.
All throughout his childhood Jack sailed small boats and won some events- including the Nantucket Sound Star Class Championship Cup in 1936, and the MacMillan Cup and East Coast Collegiate Championships in 1938 (with his brother Joe).  The first boat he owned was a 62 foot Sparkman & Stephens yacht named Mantou, that he and his family found while at the U.S. Coast Guard academy.
In addition to Mantou, JFK owned 3 other sailboats: Flash, Flash II and Victura, as well as 2 powerboats a classic commuter Marlin, and Honey Fitz, possibly the most notable. On the weekends president Kennedy would often slip off to the Cape or Hyannis to sail for leisure with friends and family and the water became more of his home than 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Even when not on the water sailing was always on the mind of the 35th president. Also famous for doodling JFK would often draw tiny pictures of his boats and other silly cartoons, and the last thing he ever drew right before his assassination was a small illustration of his pride and joy Victuria on his hotel notepad. So here's to JFK's true love.

See, even future presidents right their own sunfish. Nobody's above natural laws of sailing. (via)

"I really don't know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it is because in addition to the fact that the sea changes and the light changes, and ships change, it is because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have, in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch it we are going back from whence we came."

What's in my head

There's no other way to describe this post besides "the random things running through my head this week" hence the following
  • My life would be infinitely more awesome if dramatic moments were punctuated by the Law and Order SVU clank...you know the sound I'm talking about.
  • Carly Rae Jepsen is 26?!?!
  • For the love of god, why was GCB cancelled
  • A new season of Weeds has been put on Netflix rekindling my love for everything Nancy Botwin and iced coffee
  • Emily is a far better bachelorette than Ashley was...BUT the whole "I'm a single mother" pronouncement is going to get old VERY fast. Give me two more weeks
  • Goodreads is my new favorite app. Competitive reading has kinda become my thing
  • I've got 31 days till the sailing season starts. Wooohooo
  • There are some seriously funny people on twitter... like @PicturelessPins @Sailorproblems @ChiTownProblems @TheFauzMilaniaG
Till I think of anything else,

Nail It This Summer

With lots and lots of time on my hands this post seems fitting. Treat yourself: take 40 minutes, 4 coats, a little inspiration and voile.

Start with Chanel's "Dragon" and add China Glaze "Electrify" and you'll have girl on fire nails before you can say Everdeen

Paired with some navy blue and OPI's "Berry Daring" lives up to it's name

Nothing say's Dark & Stormy quite like OPI's "Ski Teal We Drop"
Also a big thanks to Lauren from Lights in The Sky for nominating me for a Liebster award! It's always cool when smaller blogs like mine get recognized.

The Liebster Blog Award is for bloggers with 200 or less followers
Rules:
1. Choose 5 up and coming blogs to give the award to
2. Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.
3. Post the award on your blog
4. List the blogs you have awarded with their links, and leave a comment notifying them
5. Share random facts about yourself

1. The first time one of my friends told me they read my blog I nearly died/denied I had a blog entirely. I never talk about my blog unsolicited and still think it's odd anybody reads it of their own free will.

2. I could and often do spend hours upon hours on meme-websites. You know #whatshouldwecallme? Well you haven't seen anything yet. How bout #whatshouldbifflescallme or #mylifeisakitten or #soyeahduh or #wheninlawschool...because ya know I'm totally in law school. Oh wait, not even remotely. And I've got a personal file of Gifs that just make me smile

HOW I FELT WHEN PEOPLE SAY LAKE MICHIGAN IS AS BIG AS THE OCEAN

MY REACTION WHEN PEOPLE SAY CHICAGO WINTERS AREN'T THAT BAD

3. My first CD was NSYNC's debut album. And of course I had a crush on Lance bass...the ONLY  one who ended up being gay. The first indication of my greaaaaat taste in guys.

4. Mondays are reserved for ABC's newest season of the Bachelor/ Bachelorette and a pint of ice cream with the besties. Although it goes against every single feminist belief once Chris Harrison starts narrating the past episode I'm hooked. And for the record Emily ≥ Ashley...like a million times over.

5. Birkenstocks are where it's at. As of this year I've almost forgone all my other flip flops for these orthotic dreams. While I realize this may make people wonder whether or not I recently came from from Lilith fair it's a small price to pay for the Cadillac of summer sandals.

At the same height and with the same shoe aesthetic we're basically twins.
May your weekend be merry!

May Mumblings

Anyone who ever been at college knows what a weird month May is. Schools done, summer's begun...BUT most of your friends aren't home, high schools are still in session, and the weather hasn't quite turned yet. Yes, May is an odd month.

Since it seems to be quite the transitional month not much happens. Without a serious job my life consists of the following:

Home Renovation or basically pretending I'm on some HGTV show. I've already painted one room in my house and with grandiose plans have a full bathroom makeover in store. Eat your heart out Ty Pennington.

Reading. Since I've discovered Goodreads, and after a few visits to the local library I've got a stack of books and audiobooks to keep me occupied for a longggg time.
Maine: Courtney Sullivan, The Last Summer: Anne Brashares,  The Castaways: Elin Hildebrand,  A Summer Affair: Elin Hildebrand, The Next Thing On My List: Jill Smolinski, Commencement: Courtney Sullivan

Pinterest. If you're not Pinning, you're not Winning. I think we can all agree that Pinterest is  great motivational tool to become successful, because without great jobs in the future there's no way we'll be able to afford those bazillion dollar dream houses we all pin.
But what are your suggestions? I can't be the only person bored in the most bizarre month of May...

An Apology & Update

In the past 2 months I have been an awful blogger. All through finals season I gave up the most of the internet, although let's be real meme-based websites kinda took over my procrastinating time. Soooo to summarize I am back and posting for the Summer.
Here's what's been going on...
I got to hear the Dalai Lama speak. In a strange coincidence, the Tibet center arranged a lecture series in Chicago at my school, so I was offered inexpensive student tickets. It was by far, one of the most enlightening experiences of my life. There's nothing like sitting with 4,000 other people listening to a speech about inter-faith cooperation and truly feeling peaceful. Needless to say I can check that off my bucket list.

The Dalai Lama and president of my school
I'm home. 7 months, 8 containers of Trader Joe cat cookies, 1 graduated roommate, 2 snow days later I'm back on Long Island for the duration of Summer.

In all of Chicago these were the BEST carbs eaten

So long Chicago mornings!
Till the next regularly scheduled post,

Waterlust

You know how some people catch wanderlust? They go abroad and suddenly all they want to do is travel around the world. Well replace the "ND" with a "T" and I've got my own version of wanderlust: Waterlust.
Perhaps it's the rising temperatures or the start of Spring, but all I can think about these day is water. Oceans, Bays, Pools... I want to go to there. But unfortunately I won't be home or at the beach till Mid May leaving me to google, pin and dream of these virtual seascapes.

Perfect place to practice some downward Beach dog

Add a new Elin Hildebrand book and tada ... Heaven!

Hopefully one of these can get me a tan,
